RE: NPO Relationship Framework updates February 2024

Updated: Mar 01, 2024

On Friday 9 February 2024, we wrote to Arts Council England (ACE) to share the concerns of our membership following the quiet introduction of new guidelines around reputational risk for National Portfolio Organisations (NPOs). You can read the full letter here. The new guidelines were widely publicised following coverage by Arts Professional on 15 February 2024, and met with widespread alarm in the arts community and beyond.

AUE is passionate about supporting artistic and political freedoms. Art and politics are inseparable and ACE’s new guidance appears to represent a growing authoritarianism in response to our current political moment. ACE’s public response to date has shed little light on the situation and we look forward to their response to our letter. We have requested a response by 23 February and will keep our members updated as the situation develops.

ACE's response to our letter can be read here and below.
